Expedition Edition 14: Hong Kong

It was time to leave Europe behind and head east to the Asia leg of our trip. Maggie and I started in Hong Kong for a way too short two-night stay. It somehow didn't really occur to me that there might be some jet lag between Germany and Hong Kong, and though I wish we stayed in Hong Kong for a little longer so we could recover, I loved our whirlwind experience there.

In our only full day in the city, we traveled to the top of Victoria Peak in the morning where we soaked in beautiful views of the city and fueled our nightmares with the biggest spider I've ever seen. The startlingly steep tram we took to get to Victoria Peak was also a pretty fun experience in and of itself.

After Victoria Peak, we traveled back down to the city and stopped at Tim Ho Wan, a Michelin-starred restaurant, for some of the best dim sum I've ever had. I always thought of dim sum in the same way I thought of pho; as long as it's not bad, it's good, but Tim Ho Wan was definitely a cut above.

After a quick stop at Man Mo Temple, we took the Star Ferry from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon, where we perused the Temple Night Market and grabbed a couple of drinks while our bartender entertained us with a few riddles. Here's one that Maggie expertly solved: what's always rising, but never falls?

It's age.

I really enjoyed our short time in Hong Kong, and I wish we planned to spend another night or two there. That's life though, right? Also, quick transit report: it was GREAT! The Metro was frequent and all of the buses and trams were double deckers!

Now we're in Seoul, South Korea and ready to oppa Gangham style (timely reference).
